What is a Patent Auction?
A patent auction is built on our SMR Auction software platform. The patents being sold in the auction are each added to the software as their own product (similarly, packages of patents can be bundled together and sold as a product). Bidders (the more, the better) come into the software and place bids on the patents. Each round, bidders are required to keep bidding on the patents, in order to remove the "EBay issue", someone sniping the product at the last minute. All bidders maintain their bids every round, moving their bids around as prices change and their interests in the various patents change with the price. The auction ends when an entire round completes with no new bids from any bidders, and the current prices of each patent are final, with the winning bidder on each patent paying that winning price.
It's an extremely easy to understand and powerful auction methodology to sell patents. It's economically efficient and market-driven, meaning that the patents will only be sold at the highest market-driven price.
